St Mary’s, Tremadog

This redundant church had been empty for some thirty years, having been originally been built by William Maddocks as a centrepiece for Tremadog, a planted town of the late eighteenth century.

The church was in semi-derelict condition and was acquired by a local Historic Buildings Preservation Trust for conversion to community centre use. The Coadestone gateway and Roman cement covered brick steeple both required complex and demanding conservation work.

The upper part of the steeple was dismantled and rebuilt and all Roman cement surfaces were renewed. New Coadestone components were modelled and carved for an entire gate pier.
