Century House

Century House, Shrewsbury
Date      2003

Arrol & Snell’s design for the old Century Cinema site in Shrewsbury displays that practice’s abilities in designing new-build developments within conservation areas. The site stands at the foot or Shrewsbury’s Wyle Cop opposite a previous Arrol & Snell conversion of a nineteenth-century warehouse (The Cornhouse) and on the historic town walls.

Arrol & Snell vastly expanded on the usable space on the site for residential and commercial units. However, the massing of the building has been sensitively considered resulting in a new-build that sits comfortably within its historic townscape.
